About us
Glasgow City Mission is the world’s first City Mission and has been at the forefront of compassionate care for the city’s marginalised since 1826.
We have three projects: the City Centre Project, the Child and Family Centre (Govan) and the Overnight Welcome Centre. We work with those affected by homelessness, addiction and poverty.
In our City Centre Project at 20 Crimea Street, we advocate for our guests to support them with their individual issues. We serve lunch and dinner each weekday where our volunteers and staff sit and chat with our guests to deepen relationships and trust. We have support groups, counselling, men’s and women’s groups and activities, our Rehab Pathways Team for those struggling with and recovering from addiction and English classes. We also have an Outreach Team that goes into the streets and lanes of Glasgow each weekday.
Our Child and Family work with families in Govan. We run a nursery, toddler groups, parenting classes, English classes, after school clubs and regular holiday clubs. We have project workers who work with the local women and a dad’s worker who supports fathers. We work with the whole family to give children the best possible start in life. We support the parents in their parenting and equip them to fulfil their own potential.
Our Overnight Welcome Centre opens on 1 December each year for four months. Set up to ensure that nobody needs to sleep rough in Glasgow in the worst of the winter weather, we collaborate with like-minded agencies to move guests from emergency accommodation to a permanent solution.
